The Borough of Coaldale will enter 2005 with a new police chief.

Borough Patrolman Timothy Delaney was appointed to the position after Chief Shawn Nihen resigned earlier this year. Melissa Johnson had been serving as acting chief.Delaney, who has many years of police experience in Coaldale and Lansford, will serve a one-year probation period, take a noncompetitive test and receive a salary of $40,000 until a contract is negotiated.
