Chestnuthill Township supervisors are comparing insurance quotes

Chestnuthill Township supervisors were supposed to approve the township's insurance carrier for 2015 at Tuesday night's meeting, but it has been put on hold.

Attorney Michael Collins said the township received quotes from four different companies, including its current carrier, the Dreher Insurance Agency's Travelers Insurance, which has been serving the township for many years. Its quote was $69,514.Collins said it's been like comparing apples to oranges. He's narrowed it down to Travelers Insurance and Selective Insurance through Brown and Brown Insurance at a quote of $67,965."There are a couple of issues I haven't been able to solve yet. It's an important decision for the township. I plan to work with both companies and will have a recommendation for the supervisors in the next day or two. A decision will be made by the supervisors at the next meeting, Tuesday, Dec. 16," Collins said.Bernie Kozen, executive director of West End Park and Open Space Commission, said he wanted to thank all the 70-plus volunteers who helped put together a piece of playground equipment at the VanBuskirk-Haney Community Park. It took about six hours to complete.Kozen reported:• there will be a Red Cross blood drive at Chestnuthill Park from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday.• Santa Claus will visit the park from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 12• LifeLine Screening will be at the park at 9 a.m. Dec. 17.C.J. Dickinson, West End Community Ambulance Association's business manager, said they responded to 149 calls in November.Don Zipp reported the West End Fire Company responded to 34 calls in October. He had no numbers for November as of the meeting.The Pennsylvania State Police responded to 123 calls in November: 47 alarms, 39 accidents, 15 burglaries, 21 thefts, one firearms.The 2015 proposed budget will be voted on at the Dec. 16 meeting at 7 p.m.The 2015 reorganization meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 5.
