They'll dust off their choppers, break out their helmets, and fire up their engines as they prepare to converge on Slatington.

New to the borough, the inaugural Slatington Fire Department Bike Night & Car Show will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, from noon to 8 p.m.

During the event, Main Street will be closed from Second Street to Washington Street, noted borough Fire Chief Keith Weaver.

Weaver said the event will be held in honor of longtime firefighter Milt "Bup" Greene, who passed away last year.

The event will be hosted by the Teamster Horseman Motorcycle Club, to which Greene, a firefighter for 35 years, belonged to.

Weaver said that besides the motorcycles and cars, the event will also feature live bands, a kiddie zone, food vendors, beer specials, other vendors, and an appearance by Penn's Peak radio personality Layne "The Doc" Roberts.

Proceeds raised will go toward the restoration of the Fireman's Statue on Main Street, while the rest will go to the fire company to apply toward the payment of its 2012 fire truck, Weaver said.

He said those who bring motorcycles and cars will have their choice if they want be judged in a contest or not. Two awards will be given out for each, Weaver said.
