Late Air Force veteran remembered

The Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 recently presented a plaque in memory of SFC George J. Santore (retired) to his wife, Cheri Santore, son, Anthony F. Santore and family in a service at the Post Home.

Santore served in the U.S. Air Force from 1977-1981 and was a U.S. Army Airborne Ranger from 1983-1999.He served two tours in Korea.Santore was a life member of the VFW Post 8008 and it was there that he met his wife, Cheri, who worked as a bartender there at the time.He served as a junior and senior vice president as well as a trustee and was in line to be the next Post commander when he lost his battle with brain cancer in 2007.Since the Post Home Association was remodeling at the time, Mrs. Santore felt it would be appropriate to donate to the project and funded the cost of a new wall which would be dedicated in memory of her husband. The large memorial plaque, created by Heritage Frame & Glass, will now hang on that wall.
