A Killdeer guards its eggs in a nest of gravel at Northern Lehigh High School. The bird, whose nests consist of a shallow bowl in the ground or gravel, chose the stones of the shot put area as its nesting area. The track team placed large pieces of wood in front of the nest to protect it from the large metal balls which weigh up to 12 pounds.
