Franklin Twp. man faces drug charges

A Franklin Township man who allegedly swallowed a large amount of cocaine to hide the drug from police faces charges stemming from the incident.

Anthony J. Formisano, 43, faces drug and other charges stemming from the incident, which happened at 5:35 p.m. Thursday.According to a report issued by Lehighton state trooper Shaun M. Flynn, state police at Fern Ridge and Lehighton responded to 20 Court St., Franklin Township on a report that a wanted person, Formisano, was there.State police arrived at the place and arrested Formisano.A large amount of heroin, prescription drugs and a large amount of cash were seized.Formisano had to be taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, because he had swallowed a large amount of cocaine to hide it from police. Formisano remains hospitalized under guard.Police made three other arrests at 20 Court St.: two for driving under the influence, and one aggravated assault on a police officer. No further details of those charges were given in the report.Assisting with the investigation were Fern Ridge troopers Dominick and Lyden; and Cpl. Noonan, and troopers Shandra, Sofranko and Lyon of Lehighton; Lehighton borough police, Lehighton emergency medical services, and Schliers Towing.
