Carbon County Salary Board vote

In a story in Friday's TIMES NEWS titled "Salary board votes 3-1 for new full-time position," it appears there may be some confusion as to the votes cast to create a clerical specialist in the Clerk of Courts office.

The position, which will pay $9.91 per hour, will report to Clerk of Courts Bill McGinley, who joined Carbon County Commissioners Tom Gerhard and Wayne Nothstein in approving the position.County Controller Robert Crampsie voted against the position. Commissioner William J. O'Gurek was not at last week's meeting.Crampsie said his 'no' vote was due in part to the county not having budgeted an additional salary in the 2012 spending plan, and also his concern that the county is facing a possible $4 million deficit and may have to raise taxes next year. The county salary board is comprised of the three county commissioners and the controller. When voting for a position within a row office holder's department, that row office holder also has a vote on the salary board in regard to that specific position.
