Three arrested after traffic stop

Three New York state residents were arrested on various drug charges following a traffic stop in Monroe County. Pocono Mountain Regional police said the incident occurred about 11:16 a.m. on Dec. 27 at Main and Church sts., in Tobyhanna, Coolbaugh Township.

Police said officers stopped a vehicle operated by Christina Arty, 19, of Bayside, for failing to stop at a posted stop sign.While speaking with Arty officers detected to odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A consent search was conducted and found was marijuana, packaging material and drug paraphernalia. Arty told officers she recently smoked marijuana prior to the stop.Arty was placed under arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and the stop sign violation. Two passengers with her, Shane Higgins, 18, of Port Washington, and Thomas Clark, 19, of Flushing, were both arrested and charged with possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.The three were arraigned before District Judge Anthony Fluegel, of Tobyhanna, and released on $2,500 unsecured bail each.
