Shenandoah Fire destroys large downtown night club

For the second time in five years, flames destroyed a popular downtown night club this morning in Shenandoah. Around 5:30 a.m. today, emergency responders were called to the area around the 100 block of North Main Street after police officers on patrol noticed smoke. After investigating, police and fire officials determined the smoke to be coming from the Thunder Road night club, 121 North Main Street. Within minutes smoke and flames spread to the entire building and roof. Firefighters were still battling the blaze as of press time this morning. Responding were emergency responders from Shenandoah, Tamaqua, McAdoo, Ryan Township, Mahanoy City, Schuylkill Haven, Friedensburg, Pottsville and many others. A fire completely destroyed the same club in November of 2007. Firefighters used multiple aerial ladder trucks to battle the blaze.
