The Palmerton Area Democratic Club will hold its opening meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 7 p.m. at the Fireline Hotel, Bowmanstown. The topic will be "Back to SchoolWhat's In, What's Not" with featured speaker Carol Boyce, Superintendent of Schools for the Palmerton Area School District.

"Last year the Pennsylvania Legislature made cuts to the state education budget that made a dramatic impact on the budget of the Palmerton Area School District forcing both an increase in local school taxes and painful reductions in staff, programs, services, as well as after school sports and activities offered to students in Palmerton schools," said Club President, Sarina Berlow. "Superintendent Boyce will give us an overview of the changes, their ramifications, and a glimpse of what's to come."The area covered by the Club includes Palmerton, Bowmanstown, Towamensing Township and Lower Towamensing Township. Meetings are monthly, the second Tuesday of the month, September to May, 7 p.m. at the Fireline Hotel, Bowmanstown.
