Knife incident brings heavy police response

Just after 5 p.m. Sunday, more than a dozen law enforcement officers from Rush Township, Coaldale, Lansford, Jim Thorpe, Nesquehoning and Department of Conservation and National Resources responded to the 300 block of both West Mill Street and West Catawissa Street (SR209) in Nesquehoning.

Schuylkill Communications, relaying Carbon County police radio traffic, mentioned over the air that young individuals were smashing windows and carrying weapons.When police arrived they placed handcuffs on two males and put them in separate police cars.Witnesses and neighbors stated that the incident started when a resident living at 351 West Mill St. confronted residents of 348 West Catawissa St., over loud music coming from their property. Two nearby neighbors stated that they saw two young males from 348 West Catawissa St. retrieve two large baking knives and another object from their home and approach the neighbor. One witness told the TIMES NEWS reporter that one of the males swung the long object at the neighbor.Afterwards, police released the males and returned two large knives to the home of 348 West Catawissa St. No injuries or smashed windows were observed. Nesquehoning police didn't have any available information as of press time today.
