CCTI students receive special awards

Carbon County Career and Technical Institute seniors graduated on June 9. The following students received awards and recognition.

Nicole Henry was named valedictorian and Tiffany Ruch, salutatorian. The senior class officers were Trisha Ruch, president; Crystal Sparrow, vice-president; Tiffany Ruch, secretary and Ray Zuber, treasurer.Special awardsJonathan Baptiste and Nicole Henry: Scholastic Excellence Award for academic achievement and leadership as a high school scholar.Aaron Papay: United States Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award.Jonathan Baptiste and Andrew Salazar: David Argall Good Citizenship Award.Derek Ahner (carpentry); Sean Dailey Jr. (electrical construction maintenance) and Harley Paluch (HVAC): Carbon Builders Association Award (CP, ECM, HVAC). Each student received a gift award valued at $200.Mason Rehrig (Electric Construction Maintenance): the $1,000 Franklin Township Lions Club Award. He received $500 now and will receive another $500 when he shows documentation of attending post secondary school.Cathy Cordery and Kristen J. Hickman: Concourse Club Award, presented to a Palmerton student. Each received $250.Crystal Sparrow: Dr. George P. Snyder Memorial Award and $100 from the Palmerton Hungarian Club Award; Kevin Mengle: $100 and a $50 gift certificate from Palmerton Auto Parts, and a plaque.Auto Service Technology: Ruben Allen: $25 from Godshall Kane Architects; Brandon Kline: $50 gift card from Palmerton Auto Parts; Shawn Raynor: $50 from the Charles A. Snyder Memorial Fund; Chris Carroll: $100 and certificate, and $600 from the Ernest C. Ginder Memorial Scholarship Award.Carpentry Program: Aaron Papay: $150 from Terraform Engineering LLC and a $50 gift certificate to Lowes and a T-shirt, both donated by Lobar Inc.; Derek Ahner: carpentry accessories including tools, tool box, a plaque and the Bowmanstown/Parryville Award.Cooperative Education Program: Mark Miller: $150 from the Kovatch Corporation. He has also been offered a full-time position upon graduation.Culinary Arts: Ashlee Hockenbury: $25 from Sisco; Jacob Gaugler: $100 from A-1 Restaurant Supply; Tiffany Ruch: $50 from the Culinary Arts Program; Trisha Ruch: $100 from Zimmerman's Dairy, a plaque and $50 from the Kevin Niederer Memorial Scholarship Award. She will also receive $500 from the Lehigh Valley School Facilities Managers Scholarship Award.Integrated Information Systems Technology: Michael White: $75 from the Dan Reese Memorial Award for outstanding student.Welding: Mark Miller: a two speed portable bandsaw from GTS-Welco and a plaque. He has been awarded advanced placement credit for two courses at Pennsylvania College of Technology. This is equivalent to a scholarship worth $2,050.Administrative awardsThe Administrative Awards are sponsored by the Carbon Career & Technical Institute Scholarship Trust Fund.Business Administrator's Award: Nicole Henry: plaque and $500.Principal's Award: Derek Ahner: plaque and $500.Director's Award: Jonathan Baptiste: plaque and $500.
