The Tamaqua Blue Waves took part in the Anthracite Swim League Youth Championships this past Saturday. The Waves finished first with a score of 1,686 points.
Triple winners for Tamaqua included Claire Frank in the 11-12 age group with firsts in the 50 Breaststroke, 100 IM and 200 Freestyle; Joann Butkus in the 13-14 age group winning the 50 Freestyle, 200 IM and 200 Freestyle and Jordan Frank in the 13-14 age group winning the 50 Breaststroke, 200 IM and 50 Butterfly).Winning girls that participated in the 8-and-under age group were Emily Amershek (100 IM and 25 Fly), Caroline Balogach (25 Breast and 50 Free), and Maxine Beers (25 Back).Winning in the 11-12 girls age group was Kiera Van Horn (50 Back).Winning girls that participated in the 13-14 age group were Makayla Boyle (50 Back) and Miranda Amey (50 Breast).Also winning events were Lexi Kerstetter (G9-10; 25 Fly), Thomas Fegley (B8-U; 100 IM), Matt Letterhouse (B11-12; 50 Breast)Tamaqua also had a number of relay teams win.The 8-U girls' team of Emily Amershek, Maxine Beers, Jen Frederickson and Caroline Balogach won both the 100 Free Relay and the 100 Medley Relay.The girls' 9-10 team of Lexi Kerstetter, Rebecca Kanaskie, Olivia Stanek and Kayla Sherry won both 100-meter relays as well. The same could be said for the 11-12 200-meter relay team of Kiera VanHorn, Brianna Wittig, Claire Frank and Morgan Veglia.Makayla Boyle, Joann Butkus, Danielle Decindio and Miranda Amey teamed up to win the girls' 13-14 200 Medley Relay, while Amber Gulick, Carly Trovinger, Miranda Amey and Joann Butkus took home the 200 Free Relay in the same age group.
