Schuylkill gets $250K crime grant

Schuylkill County has been awarded a $250,000 Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency grant.

County Administrator Gary Bender said it’s a two-year grant, with the county receiving $125,000 per year.

The money is earmarked for the District Attorney’s office, Pottsville Police Department, Schuylkill Women in Crisis and Schuylkill Sexual Assault and Rape Council and will be used to bolster enforcement of domestic violence crimes.

The commissioners also:

• Approved an agreement with Swiftreach Networks Inc., for $24,945 to provide Schuylkill County with mass notification services. Funding will be paid through the Homeland Security Grant Program, administered by the county’s Emergency Management Agency.

• Approved a $85,100 contract with Mohawk Contracting & Development, Allentown, for a Community Development Block Grant ADA ramp installation in Port Carbon.

• On behalf of Schuylkill Women in Crisis, the county will apply for a $654,703 Emergency Solutions grant.
