Penn Forest is only contested municipal race in Jim Thorpe area

A four-person race for two six-year terms on the Penn Forest Township Board of Supervisors is the only contested race on the municipal ballots in the Jim Thorpe area on Tuesday when the General Election takes place.

Meanwhile, there are no challenged races in either Kidder Township, Jim Thorpe Borough and the Jim Thorpe Area School District, although voters in Kidder Township-North, who are part of the Weatherly Area School District, will take part in school board balloting in that area.Here is a look at what voters in the Jim Thorpe area can expect to see on the voting machines when they report to vote:Penn Forest TownshipThe balloting for the two available terms on the Penn Forest Township Board of Supervisors is between Democrat Warren Reiner, Republican Judith Knappenberger and Libertarians Ted A. York and William L. Miller Jr.Anton Leppler, a Republican, is running unopposed for the six-year term as constable.Two auditors' positions, for four and six years, are also slated to be filled by the voters, although there are no candidates for the positions.Kidder TownshipThere are also two six-year terms on the Kidder Township Board of Supervisors to be decided by the voters, although there are only two candidates for the posts.They are Bruce Berger, who won both a Democratic and Republican nomination in the May primary and will appear on both ballots, as well as Republican Barbara Smith Franzosa.Republican Curtis A. Ashner is running unopposed for a six-year term as constable.No one is running to be elected to the township's board of auditors, where terms of two, four and six years are available.Jim Thorpe BoroughThe voters in Jim Thorpe are scheduled to elect three council members for four-year terms and there are only three candidates for the positions.They include Kyle J. Sheckler and Jay T. Miller, who won both Democratic and Republican nominations in the primary and will appear on both ballots, and John T. McGuire, who is the other Democratic nominee.James McHugh will be the apparent new constable in the borough as he was successful in winning both Democratic and Republican nominations as a write-in candidate in May for the position, which is a six-year term.Jim Thorpe School BoardThere is no contest in the school district balloting as five people are seeking five four-year terms on the school board, and all five of them won dual nominations in May.Appearing on both ballots will be Clement C. McGinley, Pearl Downs-Sheckler, Michael J. Huber, Mike Principe and Robert Schaninger.Weatherly School BoardThe Kidder-North voters will see candidates for the Weatherly board, where six directors will be elected.There is one contested race, that being for a two-year term. The candidates are Democrat Matthew D. vonFrisch and Republican Gerard Grega.There are also five four-year terms on the board to be filled, although five people, including vonFrisch and Grega, appear to be unopposed, having won both Democratic and Republican nominations in the May primary. The other three candidates are William Knepper, Corey Gerhart and Georgeann Herling.
