NL says students decreased

Northern Lehigh School District’s enrollment is down from last school year.

At Monday’s school board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Matthew J. Link shared data on the district’s third day enrollment numbers which they took back in late August.

Link said the enrollment figures reflect student enrollment as of the third day of the 2026-2027 school year.

“These numbers represent a snapshot of enrollment at that time, and have fluctuated since then as students continue to enroll and withdraw from the district, which is a normal occurrence throughout the entire school year,” Link said. “Please note these figures do not include students attending Lehigh Career & Technical Institute full time, or students in out-of-district placements; however, they do include students enrolled full-time in the district’s Bulldog Academy Cyber Program.”

Link said at Peters Elementary School, on the third day, in kindergarten, there were 83 students enrolled, in first grade, 108, and in second grade, 117, for a total of 308 students.

At Slatington Elementary School, he said in third grade there were 124 students enrolled, in fourth grade, 123, in fifth grade, 115, and in sixth grade, 125, for a total of 487 students.

Link said combined for the two elementary schools on the third day, there were 795 students.

He said at Northern Lehigh Middle School, in seventh grade, there were 118 students enrolled, and in eighth grade, 133, for a total of 251 students.

At Northern Lehigh High School, Link said in ninth grade there were 132 students enrolled, in 10th grade, 116, in 11th grade, 103, and in 12th grade, 113, for a total of 464 students.

He said combined enrollment for the secondary buildings is 715 students.

Districtwide third day enrollment for the total district was 1,510 students, which Link said represents a decrease of about 52 students compared to the district third-day enrollment figures for the 2025-2026 school year.

He said the total of all those in Bulldog Academy was 23.

“So we’re down a little over 50 students from the third day last school year, and that is reflective of the number of seniors, for the most part, the number of seniors we graduated last year, and then the smallest class that we’ve had since I’ve been here of kindergarten students that enrolled,” Link said.
