A portion of Mahoning Township was without power Sunday afternoon. The outage appears to run from Normal Square to Lehighton closing numerous businesses and leaving an untold number of residences without power as well as area and traffic lights. Walmart was closed temporarily.

As of 8:15 p.m. 11 customers from Mahoning Township were without power, and 13 from Towamensing.

PPL had about 2,000 customers out throughout its service area. By 6 a.m. Monday, service was restored throughout the Times News region, with the exception of West Penn Township, where 23 customers were without power.
