A Lansford woman who police say was chasing a man in her vehicle was charged with driving under the influence and other offenses by Tamaqua police.
Officers were dispatched to a report of a reckless driver in Coaldale at 7:45 a.m. Sept. 24 and located a vehicle driven by Ciarra Moran, 29. Police stopped the vehicle, and Moran ran out and continued to chase the man. Police said she did not put the vehicle in park, and it rolled backward into the front push bar of the police vehicle.
Officers chased Moran as she continued to pursue and yell at the man. Witnesses said they observed her attacking the man earlier that morning. She was eventually taken into custody where it was learned that she had no valid inspection or insurance on the car, which was towed from the scene.
While looking in the car, police saw two small burned joints near the front seat. Police said Moran admitted to smoking marijuana a few days before.
Through the investigation, police learned that while Moran was pursuing the man, she passed school buses that were picking up children. Witnesses said she was driving erratically as she tried to pursue the man. One mother said she was scared and pulled her daughter from the roadway so she wouldn’t be hit by Moran’s vehicle.
Police charged Moran with possession of a small amount of marijuana; driving under the influence; harassment; driving while operating privileges are suspended; operating a vehicle without a valid inspection; careless driving; reckless driving; and meeting/overtaking a school bus.
