A Shenandoah man faces sexual abuse charges after he allegedly abused a 9-month-old child and recorded the act with his cellphone.
Attorney General Dave Sunday said Jalvi DeJesus Nunez, 19, was arrested and charged Thursday with sexual abuse of children, possession of sexual abuse material, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault and other offenses.
DeJesus Nunez was jailed in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.
Earlier this month, the Shenandoah Police Department received a call from a witness who saw a video of DeJesus Nunez in lewd contact with a 9-month-old.
Another witness also saw the video and provided information to police.
Shenandoah police contacted the Attorney General’s Child Predator Section earlier this month, and worked with agents to file charges and arrest DeJesus Nunez.
A search warrant was secured, which led to the seizure of the video.
“This is heinous, unfathomable conduct that has no place in civilized society,” Sunday said. “I commend our Child Predator Section for — in a matter of hours — acting with urgency to get this offender off the street, so he can do no further harm to this innocent child. There is no one more vulnerable than an infant, and we will work to hold this defendant fully accountable for truly vile behavior.”
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Mary Phillips of the Office of Attorney General Child Predator Section.
