Street sweeper

The unseasonably warm weather has meant the Tamaqua street sweeper has been able to continue weekly operations far later in the year than usual.While daytime temperatures remain well above freezing, morning temperatures are dipping into the freezing zone, heralding an end to this year's operations.As of today, Dec. 11, the street sweeping schedule is finished for 2015.Operations will resume in the spring 2016.If more information is needed, contact Tamaqua Public Works Director Rob Jones at 570-668-3444 or 570-668-0300.St. Peter's UnionThis Sunday's 9 a.m. service in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville will be followed by a congregational meeting, including elections for the church and cemetery boards.Also on Sunday, the Girl and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.Next week's activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Thursday, Confirmation class meets at 6 p.m., cherub choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m., junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m., senior choir practices at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, youth group caroling at 6:30 p.m.Installation of church and cemetery board members will be held during the worship service on Dec. 20.Christmas Eve services will include a contemplative service at 2 p.m.; family candlelight service at 7 p.m.; traditional candlelight service at 10:30 p.m. All services will include Holy Communion.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley. Kevin Duffy-Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. The service will include a presentation of the senior choir's annual Christmas Cantata.
