Speed contributed to truck rollover in Nesquehoning

No one was injured after a loaded car carrier lost control while traveling south along Route 93 down the Broad Mountain near Nesquehoning at 8 a.m. today.

Nesquehoning Borough Police Chief Sean Smith said several witnesses told police that the truck was speeding, failed to stop at the stop sign, and lost control when it attempted to make a hard left onto Route 209 north and flipped over.

A jeep that was on top of the carrier rolled over as well, Smith said.

He said police could not identify the driver at the time.

Smith said that according to witnesses, the driver never stopped, the brakes were smoking, he lost control, and when he attempted to make made hard left onto Route 209 north, lost control.

Witnesses said the driver was traveling about 65-75 miles per hour, he said.

Smith said it took about 45 minutes to clear the scene.

Also assisting were Nesquehoning Hose Company, New Columbus Fire Company, Hauto Fire Company, and Rush Township Fire Police.

The incident remains under investigation, Smith said.
