Honor roll
The names of a number of fourth-grade students from the Tamaqua Elementary School were missing from the honor roll list for the fourth quarter of the 2015-16 school year.Students earning all A's were: Espen Ansbach, Zander Coleman, Emily Kohlmeir, Miles Liebsch and Brock Roberts.Students earning high honors were: Ava Agosti, Timmy Berg, Chance Godleski, Morgan Koch, Adam Kostecky, Kylie Mavricz and Ella Morrison.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Dec. 10 with 60 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session.Ruthann Feane provided the invocation "True Christian Christmas." The meeting included a celebration for members whose birthdays are in November and December, including: Pat Brown, Joe Deitrich, Anna Mae Yushinsky, Dee Neifert, Lois Millet, Nora Sheidy, Doris Brobst, John Frederick, Ted Krall, Michael Trubilla and Joan Kachmer.Members are reminded to bring brown bag lunches during the winter months.The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 17, at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.The group is open to anyone 55 or older and the YMCA is handicap accessible.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, practice for the Children's Christmas Eve musical performance will be held at 11:45 a.m.; the monthly service at the Hometown Nursing Center will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m.; Surviving the holidays seminar at 5 p.m.Activities for next week include: Monday, sock distribution at the Hometown Nursing Center at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.Christmas Eve services will include a traditional service at 3 p.m., a contemporary candlelight service at 3 p.m. and a candlelight service at 11 p.m.BloodmobileAn American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Tamaqua on Dec. 29, providing the perfect opportunity to extend the season of holiday giving.Sponsored by the Tamaqua YMCA, the Bloodmobile will be held at the Y, 1201 E. Broad St.Blood donors will be accepted between the hours of 1 and 6 p.m.Anyone 17 or older, in good general health, who weighs at least 110 pounds is eligible to donate blood.Every potential donor will receive a free Red Cross long-sleeve T-shirt.To make an appointment, call 800-733-2767. Walk-ins are also welcome.Garden clubThe Lewistown Valley Garden Club met Nov. 17 and elected officers for 2016-17. Judy Kellner was elected president, with Carol Kohn as vice president; Louise Flexer, secretary; June Leiby, assistant secretary; Evelyn Adams, treasurer; Lina Leiby, chaplain; Joan Fritz, sergeant-at-arms; and Mary Bridygham, historian.The next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 29, in the social hall.Everyone is reminded to bring a covered dish and recipe to share.For those participating in the arrangement competition, this month's arrangement will feature stars.Street sweeperThe unseasonably warm weather has meant the Tamaqua street sweeper has been able to continue weekly operations far later in the year than usual, but all warm weather things must come to an end here in northeastern Pennsylvania.The street sweeping schedule is finished for 2015 and operations will resume in the spring of 2016.If more information is needed, contact Tamaqua Public Works Director Rob Jones at 570-668-3444 or 570-668-0300.Rush-Delano seniorsThe Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Dec. 8 for its annual Christmas party.The event was held at Chantilly's Restaurant in Barnesville with 49 members in attendance.Anniversary wishes were extended to Charles and Joann Herring, who celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.Birthday greetings were offered to Linda Humes, Carol Diehm, Paul Kunkle and Joann Herring.Several members went home with poinsettia plants, donated by Shirley and Hub Becker. Diane Gould donated a cake.The group meets at 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the fire company.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The next meeting will be held Jan. 12 at the Ryan Township Fire Company.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley.The service will include a special children's program. Light refreshments will be served following the service.The Christmas Eve service will be held at 4 p.m.Calvary UMThe Rev.
