A 59-year-old Tamaqua woman was flown from the scene of a crash that happened at 10:45 p.m. Friday in Mahoning Township.

A Dodge Caravan, operated by Lila Womer, was traveling eastbound on Route 443 near Spring House Road when she lost control and the van rolled over several times, according to state police at Lehighton on Friday night.Womer was ejected through the windshield.Shawnee Morley and her daughter were passengers in the van. They were taken for treatment at Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital.Womer was treated at the scene by members of the Mahoning Valley Ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being flown by PennSTAR 5 to a Lehigh Valley trauma center.Additional reports indicated a second vehicle was involved in the incident and the driver fled the scene on Spring House Road.As first responders awaited the arrival of police, it was learned that Mahoning Township had no officers on duty and emergency personnel would have to wait for an extended response by state police.The township recently made a decision to cut part-time police officers and to shift police to different shifts.Assisting at the scene were West Penn Township police and the Mahoning Valley Fire Department.State police said this morning a report on the crash was not available at this time.
