No one was injured after a chimney fire Monday night in Lehigh Township.
Lehigh Township Volunteer Fire Company Fire Commissioner Rick Hildebrand said firefighters were dispatched at 8:56 p.m. to a home at 1331 Riverview Drive.
Upon arrival, Hildebrand said firefighters encountered a chimney fire at the home, which was built in 1812, and had to empty out the fire box to make sure it wasn’t inside the walls.
“Luckily, it was old stone construction, so we just had to deal with some fire in the chimney yet,” Hildebrand said. “We did a little bit of ventilation.”
Hildebrand said that the owner was home, and that smoke alarms were present and worked and alerted the occupant, which he said should not be understated.
He said the fire was under control within about 10 minutes, and the home suffered mild damage.
Hildebrand said the fire remains under investigation.
He said a fire marshal was expected to arrive on scene today.
Hildebrand said also assisting at the scene were the Slatington Fire Department, Walnutport Fire Department, Laurys Station Fire Department, Northampton Fire Department and Allen Township Fire Department.
