A Carbon County woman admitted in the county court on Thursday afternoon to selling drugs and being involved in the theft of a diamond ring.

Susan Victoria Karley, 50, of 127 W. Catawissa St., Apt. 2, Nesquehoning pleaded guilty before Judge Joseph J. Matika to one count each of criminal use of a communication facility. a felony, and theft by receiving stolen property.In accepting the pleas, Matika told Karley that based on her prior criminal record score and the charges she pleaded to, she faces a prison term, at the low end, of anywhere between 9 to 16 months in the standard range on the drug count, and 3 to 9 months in the standard range on the theft charge.Karley was arrested in both cases by Nesquehoning police.In the drug case Chief Sean Smith arranged to have a confidential informant, supervised by officers Carl Breiner and Timothy Wuttke, meet with Karley in the borough to make a controlled buy of illegal substances. Karley agreed to sell the informant five hydrocodone pills at $5 per pill, and 30 morphine pills at $20 per pill. The informant bought two hydrocodone pills and one morphine pill from Karley.In the theft case, Smith has charged Karley with taking a diamond ring belonging to Jaquelyn Heydt, who also has an apartment in the same building.The ring was reported missing Sept. 16. Through the course of an investigation, Smith learned that Karley was the cleaning woman for the apartment building and had a key to enter all the apartments in the building.Police also noted they had investigated other reported thefts in the same building.Heydt also told police that on Sept 18 she received a call from Karley stating the missing ring was in her mailbox and she should come and take it.Smith responded to the apartment building and found the ring in the mailbox noted. Smith interviewed Karley on Oct. 18 and the charges were subsequently filed.Karley was scheduled to go on trial Monday on the charges plus other counts, but instead entered into a plea bargain with the district attorney's office.Matika deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a pre-sentence investigation report. Sentencing should occur in about 90 days.
