Walker Township supervisors
In other business, Walker Township supervisors addressed the following:
• Most of the road projects have been completed, according to roadmaster Chad Felty.
Township line painting has been completed at a total cost of $7,800.
• Regarding the pipe replacement project; just two more to do on the Slattery property. There is still some stone to put around on others, caps to put on, and grass seed. Felty expects to have it done by Thanksgiving.
• The new truck has been delivered, a 1991 International single-axle, with 11-foot snowplow. Has three spare tires plus other parts and filters for it.
• West Penn Township has a 1998 Mack truck possibly for sale with a plow, it has 138,000 miles, for sale for $10,000. Felty will check into the possibility of purchasing it.
• Salt, fuel and stone will be ordered soon in time for the winter weather. Trucks have been inspected and are ready for the winter.
• Solicitor Chris Riedlinger shared that he got a call from the Attorney General’s office, which had contacted him months ago, that the zoning ordinance needs some updates.
Riedlinger had made the updates; however, because Walker Township shares zoning with Rush Township, Schuylkill Township, and the Borough of Tamaqua, all four municipalities must approve them in unison.
Schuylkill Township and Tamaqua both decided they wanted to make some changes to their zoning ordinances as well, and that’s where things stopped.
Riedlinger indicated they had been waiting for those municipalities for several months, and he asked the Attorney General’s office if the could send a letter that might convince the other municipalities to finally get moving on their zoning changes in order to get the zoning updated.
• It was mentioned that the Wildcat Development does not have any street name signs up or house numbers posted throughout the development. A concern is for firetrucks or ambulances not being able to find homes in the event of an emergency. Because it is private property, the township can only recommend that signs and addresses be posted.
• The New England Fire Company had three calls for October; a vehicle accident, brush fire, and a vehicle fire. The fire company hosted a safe trick-or-treat evening with approximately 30 kids.
The fire company will hold a hamburger dinner on Nov. 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door, eat in or take out.
