Hope Center to develop healing garden

The Schuylkill Hope Center for Victims of Domestic Violence has announced a capital campaign to develop an outdoor space to benefit survivors of domestic violence.

The campaign has a $100,000 goal. The garden will be named “The Raymond ‘Ray’ & Maureen Dee Healing Garden.”

In describing the garden, Kimberly Hashin M.D. said the garden will provide respite.

“In a space that promotes physical activity, victims will be able to participate in a wide array of activities shown to help ease depression and anxiety. The release of endorphins resulting from these activities provide psychological and emotional benefits that can help them to gain confidence, increase social interaction, and develop healthy coping skills.”

The Facebook post also says a small short-term kennel is planned so victims will not have to decide between their safety and leaving their pets.
