Tamaqua Area School District appears as if it will not raise school district taxes above the index in the 2016-17 school year.

That's after the school board's finance committee on Tuesday agreed to place a resolution on the agenda for the Dec. 15 board meeting.Business manager Connie Ligenza said the index is 3.2 percent, which equates to 1.1 mills, or about $305,000 in tax revenue.Students recognizedAlso on Tuesday, the board recognized four kindergarten pupils as students of the month.Among those recognized were Luke Grasso, West Penn Elementary; Matthew Guiliano, Tamaqua Elementary; Lianna Coombe, Tamaqua Elementary; and Tiffany Holmes, Tamaqua Elementary.In other businessResolutions on these items will be up for a vote at the board's Dec. 15 meeting:• The education committee approved the first reading of policies related to school district facility use procedure, and public attendance at school events.• The education committee approved the 2016-17 district school calendar.• The education committee approved a partnership between Wilkes University and the school district to jointly prepare and support new reading specialists to improve curriculum, instruction and student achievement.• The finance committee approved the sale of a parcel located at 20 E. Spruce St. Tamaqua, for the sale price of $400, and a parcel located at 241 Lafayette St. in Tamaqua, for the sale price of $1,986.
