West End park resumes some events

Bernie Kozen, director of the West End Park and Open Space Commission, told Chestnuthill Township this week that he hopes this year to go back to all the activities they held before the pandemic hit.

Wellness Classes at the Chestnuthill Park, on Route 715 in Brodheadsville, have resumed following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. FitDance, PiYo, tai chi are being held weekly.

Bingo is held on the third Friday of the month.

Kozen has scheduled a craft fair for April 17 and plans to hold dog training sessions in the dog park, as well as tea parties.

“I want to mention the scholarship is now available, once again available,” he said.

The West End Park and Open Space Commission’s eighth annual David Fleetwood Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of Fleetwood, who was killed in a shooting at the Ross Township building 2013.

This year, the commission is offering two $2,000 scholarships to graduates of the Pleasant Valley School District who exemplify the outstanding attributes of David Fleetwood. Fleetwood was a dedicated public servant and took serving his community seriously.

Applications are available from the Pleasant Valley School District Guidance Office or online at www.weposc.org.

All properly completed applications must be received by the West End Park and Open Space Commission on or before April 15.
