The East Penn supervisors voted Tuesday night to adopt the proposed budget for the 2016 fiscal year. There will be no tax increase for residents.

In fact, the township is up $558.06 in the general fund, $561 in the sewer fund, $941 in liquid fuels. The social hall even handed in a profit of $8 for the year.The township has allocated $5,000 for the purchase of a new police cruiser."We have two cops and four cars, let's be realistic," Chairman Dean Kercsmar said. "We don't spend what we don't have," he said of the new vehicle.The 2016 budget will also include $125,000 assigned to highway projects or road repairs the township desperately needs, according to residents.During the monthly meeting, the board voted to sell Truck 29, a 2000 Ford valued at rough estimate of $5,800."I'll make a suggestion to get rid of it. It's already 30 years old," Supervisor David Bryfogle said.Along with Truck 29, Car 21, a Crown Victoria with an accumulated 105,000 miles, will also be up for sale."The motor was rebuilt and only has 30,000 miles, but overall the car has 105,000," supervisor Deanna Cunfer told the board. Since both vehicles have a value of more than $1,000, law requires the vehicles be put up for bidding.The bids will be read and decided on at the year-end meeting Dec. 29.Bryfogle took a few minutes after the matter was voted on to thank the residents who voted for him during the November election."I want to thank the board for putting their trust in me the past six months. I'd like to thank the people who voted for me in the write-in. It didn't go my way, but I tried my best," he told the residents in attendance."I hope when the new board comes in, they sit and listen to the taxpayers and show a little respect to the taxpayers."
