Spirit of Christmas
The Tamaqua Community Art Center will be a busy place during Tamaqua's Upcoming Spirit of Christmas Festival. The festival will be held this weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.Activities will include a meet and greet with Santa today; performances of "The Rented Christmas" by members of the Tamaqua Area Community Theatre on today and tomorrow; an artist open house and vendor fair on Saturday and Sunday and a concert by Dr. Susan M. Featro at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, with special guests Steve Toth, Emily Barrett and Tom Flamini.For more information on any of the planned events, call 570-668-1192.Library newsThe Tamaqua Public Library will hold its Christmas Storytime event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 10. Children ages 5 and younger are welcome to attend.The evening will include the telling of Christmas tales, crafts, snacks and a special visitor from the North Pole.Registration is required and may be made by calling 570-668-4660 or by stopping in at the library on South Railroad Street.The library is also having a Christmas book sale of like-new and gently used books.Community dinnerTrinity United Church of Christ will host a free community, spaghetti dinner and worship on Dec. 12. The pastor's message will be given at 5:30 p.m., followed by a dinner of spaghetti and meatballs.For more information, call the church office at 570-668-4139.The church is located at 22 Lafayette St.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Sunday's 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John's Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion.Also on Sunday, Sunday school and Confirmation classes meet at 10:30 a.m. and the bell choir will rehearse at noon.Next week's activities include: Thursday, angel choir rehearsal at 6 p.m., shepherd choir practices at 6:30 p.m., chancel choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Messenger assembly at 9:30 a.m.Christmas Eve services will be held at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Both services will include Holy Communion and the later service will have special music provided by the bell choir.Contact Kathy Kunkel at 570-668-1250 or
