Weissport Borough Council during the past two meetings has accepted the resignation of two of its sitting public servants.

During the Nov. 19 meeting, council unanimously accepted the resignation of Councilwoman Paulette Watson. Her resignation stated that she would resign her council seat effective Dec. 31, 2015.During Monday's meeting, the resignation of Theresa Troutman, the borough's tax collector was unanimously accepted. Troutman's resignation is to be effective Jan. 1.Council received three letters of interest for the upcoming vacant council seat.During Monday's meeting, Councilwoman Brenda Leiby made a motion, which was seconded by Linda Schoenberger, to appoint longtime resident Gregory "Pap" May, one of the applicants for the vacant seat.May will assume the appointed council position effective Jan. 1 and will serve out the remainder of Watson's term, which is two years.In other matters, Berkheimer Tax Administrator Inc. was present to review a proposal that was submitted to the borough. The proposal was to provide real estate tax collection services for Weissport.The proposal outlined that Berkheimer will provide real estate tax services for the borough, and if the proposal is approved, the cost of the services would $2.25 per bill plus the cost of postage.As outlined in the proposal, the borough would appoint an official tax collector for the borough, who would then appoint Berkheimer as the deputy tax collector and they would perform the tax collection services for the borough.No decision was made at this time.Regarding the 2016 borough budget, council announced that it would have a special meeting on Dec. 14 to finalize the budget.According to President Gene Kershner, council plans to adopt the 2016 budget at that meeting.
