2 injured when car hits tree in Lansford

Two people were injured Sunday afternoon when involved in a crash in Lansford. The crash occurred just after 2 p.m. along Route 209 just east of the Lansford town houses.

Lansford police chief Jack Soberick reports a young female driver and a young male passenger were injured in the incident. The car went off the road and hit a large tree. The tree collapsed onto the car. Firefighters used chain saws to cut the tree and free the victims. The two were treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital.

The Lansford and Coaldale fire departments responded. Police believe the speed and condition of the tires may have played into the crash. Route 209 was closed due to the incident.
