Wednesday storm announcements; submit snow totals, photos

Snow will continue into Thursday, with 12 to 20 inches in the forecast for most of the area.

Drivers centers delay opening

PennDOT Driver License and Photo License Centers in the following counties will delay opening until 11:30 a.m. Thursday: Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, and Schuylkill counties. Customers with scheduled driver skills tests will be contacted to reschedule their appointments. Customers may obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services, including all forms, publications and driver training manuals, online through PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services website, www.dmv.pa.gov.

Weis Market closed early

In an effort to ensure the safety of customers and associates during the expected storm and predicted snowfall over the next 24 hours, Weis Markets stores closed early on Wednesday.

All stores closing early today will reopen on Thursday at 10 a.m.

Jim Thorpe announcement

Jim Thorpe Borough Police have announced that vehicles need to be moved to the odd side of the street on the designated snow routes. All vehicles need to remain on the odd side of the street until notified.

Once plowing begins, ticketing will commence.

PennDOT road closures

Commercial vehicles are banned and speed limits lowered on the following roads:

• All northbound and southbound miles of Route 33;

• All eastbound and westbound miles of Interstate 78;

• All eastbound and westbound miles of Interstate 80;

• All northbound and southbound miles of Interstate 81;

• All northbound and southbound miles of US 209;

• All northbound and southbound lanes of US 222;

• All northbound and southbound miles of PA 309;

• All eastbound and westbound miles of US 422:

• All northbound and southbound miles of Interstate 380.

Palmerton snow emergency

Mayor William Gallagher has declared a snow emergency effective Wednesday at 5 p.m. until further notice. By ordinance, vehicles must be removed from the designated snow emergency route during this time. Failure to comply can result in fines and the towing of vehicles at the owner’s expense. The snow emergency route includes Delaware Ave., Mauch Chunk Rd., and Third St. from Delaware Ave. north to the borough line.

Parking regulations during snow accumulation of two inches or more, between Nov. 1 and April 1 of the following year: “Park on the odd side of the street on an odd-numbered day. Park on the even side of the street on an even-numbered day. The time to move your car for the next day’s rule is between 7 and 8 p.m. The odd-even parking regulation continues 48 hours after the snowfall has ended.”

Snow accumulations on sidewalks shall be removed within eight hours after the snow/ice has ceased to fall; provided, however that snow or ice that has ceased to fall or to be formed after 6 p.m. may be removed at any time before noon of the following day
