Man charged with possessing, selling controlled substances

A Weissport man has been charged with possessing and selling controlled substances.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Justin Magluilo of the Pennsylvania State Police, Lehighton barracks in the case against Jason Ensel:

At 2:30 p.m. Sept. 22, Magluilo was on patrol on Interchange Road at its intersection with Route 248 in Franklin Township when he observed a gold 2004 Pontiac Grand Am traveling northbound on Interchange Road.

Magluilo saw the vehicle did not have a valid Pennsylvania inspection sticker.

During that time, he was informed by desk personnel that the vehicle and its potential operator, Ensel, 35, were the subject of a “be on the lookout” “attempt to locate” through the Carbon County 911 center for Jim Thorpe Police Department.

Magluilo initiated a traffic stop on Harrity Road at its intersection with Interchange Road.

Upon approaching the vehicle, he observed Ensel as the operator, and detected an odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle.

Magluilo also observed a black bookbag in plain view on the front passenger seat which had a plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana protruding from its side pocket.

Magluilo asked Ensel to exit the vehicle, which he agreed to, at which time he was placed in investigatory detention. At this time, it was confirmed Ensel had a mental health warrant.

Magluilo then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and located suspected marijuana; suspected methamphetamine; hypodermic needles; metal grinders containing suspected marijuana residue; a white plastic container with suspected marijuana residue; digital scales; and various packaging materials, all of which were seized and later entered into evidence at state police Lehighton barracks.

Ensel then acknowledged his Miranda Warnings and agreed to questioning, at which time he admitted to possessing the items found in his book bag and later admitted to selling controlled substances.

Ensel faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and operation of vehicle without official certificate of inspection.

He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 6 before District Judge Joseph J. Matika.
