Summit Hill council

In other business Monday, Summit Hill Borough Council:

• The council accepted the resignation of Derrick Koch as a part-time police officer. Police Sgt. Jeffrey Ohl said Koch has obtained full-time employment as a police officer in another community.

• Mayor Paul McArdle said trick-or-treat night will be held in the borough on Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m. The rain date will be Nov. 1 from 6-8 p.m.

Kevin Steber, the town’s Emergency Management Director, urged residents dole out the candy on porches and not have the children come inside their residences because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, he urged the event to be limited to borough residents.

• Fall cleanup will be held on Oct. 10 on the east side of town, Knepper’s Court, and East and West White Bear Drive.

It will be held on Oct. 17, on the west side of town, Laurel Drive, and East and West Mountaintop Road.

• The council agreed to enter into a lease agreement with the Summit Hill Water Authority for utilizing the borough hall. The fee will be $1,100 per month effective January. This includes electricity, furniture, heat and telephone service.

• Attorney Kelly Jamison was named solicitor for both the Zoning Hearing Board and the Summit Hill Planning Commission. She succeeds attorney Michael Garfield, who was solicitor for many years until his retirement a few months ago.

• The council agreed to purchase custom Code and Ordinance Tickets for the police department to be used for enforcing the Quality of Life ordinance. The cost is $1,344 for 2,500 tickets.

• John Poko, representing the Summit Hill Fire Department, said Diligence Hose Company canceled its annual open house held in October in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week because of the coronavirus. He said Fire Prevention Week in general will still be observed.

• Poko also told the council the department’s 1987 model pumper is broken down and not worth repairing. He said the fire company is looking at options, including grants, to replace it.
