A Luzerne County man was sentenced to a prison term on Friday after previously pleading guilty to drug charges.
Alfonzo Dalessio, 42, of Wilkes-Barre, was sentenced to serve nine to 23 months in prison on a possession of a controlled substance count and one year probation on a possession of drug paraphernalia count, with the terms running consecutively.
Dalessio, however, won’t be spending any more time in jail as Judge Joseph J. Matika gave him credit for 368 days spent in a Salvation Army inpatient drug and alcohol program and prison time.
He was arrested following a vehicle stop along Route 209 on Jan. 24, 2018, by Jim Thorpe police. A felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance was dropped in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office.
Dalessio told the court he is living in a halfway house in Wilkes-Barre and has a full-time job.
He said, “The Salvation Army changed my life.”
Matika congratulated Dalessio. “You did a 180 turnaround.”
In addition to the prison term, Dalessio was ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, render a total of 125 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and probation.
