The deadline for a coronavirus grant to help Carbon County with Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds is coming up.
Carbon County was awarded $36,821 in federal funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county. In addition, the county was also awarded $52,497 under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.
A local board was created to determine how the funds awarded to Carbon County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. Applications are now being accepted by agencies to receive funds through these two awards.
Eligible groups must be private voluntary nonprofits or units of the government, be eligible to receive federal funding, have an accounting system, have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food or shelter services and if a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.
Agencies that meet the eligibility can find more information on this grant at www.efsp.unitedway.org. Click on the button labeled “FY2019/2020/CARES Funding.”
Carbon County has distributed emergency food and shelter funds previously with Shepherd House Inc., providing 54,153 meals to 6,492 people through its nine food pantries.
Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for emergency food and shelter program funds must contact Stanley Haupt at 610-377-6048 or bookworm@ptd.net.
The deadline for applications to be received is May 20.
