Weissport Borough Council voted Monday to approve the hiring of police officer Anthony Vaillant as Weissport’s interim chief of police at $25 per hour for 16 hours per week.
Borough solicitor Greg Mousseau issued the oath of office to Chief Vaillant. No specific start date was given.
“As soon as possible,” Council Member Jennifer Ketchledge said.
Vaillant has served at the Northern Berks Regional Police Department near Reading since 2021, and also with the Hamburg Borough Police Department, and the Tamaqua Borough Police Department.
Vaillant completed his associate degree at the City University New York in criminal justice. He has also served as a U.S. Army military police officer.
He currently is an Army Reservist, and has received specialized training from the armed forces in his field of expertise.
