Veterans parade

The Tamaqua Veterans Day Parade will be held this Saturday.Staging will be at the east end of town. Organizers are asking participants to be at the staging area by 9:30 a.m., as the parade will begin at 10 a.m. The line of march will then travel west on Broad Street with a stop at the Tamaqua American Legion Post.No registration is required.For more information, call 570-668-1234.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Oct. 29 with 69 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session and Jacque Patrick offered the invocation "Birthday Greetings."One new member, Carol Linkovich, was welcomed to the group. Birthday greetings were extended to: Joan Ann Garber, Pat Regalis, Marlene Randig, Mary Herbick, Nellie Brennan, Mary Nazar, Norma Baker, Jane Tarter, Ruthann Feane and Joyce Krell.Norma Lee Burke was welcomed as the group's new treasurer. Outgoing treasurer Penny Schlorf was thanked for her service.The group discussed the annual Christmas party, which was scheduled for Dec. 3 at the Y. Refreshments will be provided by A and C Catering.The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 5, at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.The group is open to anyone 55 or older and the YMCA is handicap accessible.Meet the artistThe Tamaqua Community Art Center will host an artist meet and greet featuring Michael Delmonico on Thursday.Delmonico is a photographer who began his craft while in college. Traveling throughout northeastern Pennsylvania, his images include portraits, landscapes, concerts and fine art. His most current project features levitation and surreal images, creating a vivid scene of bewilderment and fascination.Hours for the meet and greet are 6:30-8:30 p.m. The art center is located at 125 Pine St.Bucket booksThe Bucket List Book Club meets at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St. The next meeting will be held today.The November selection will be "Slaughterhouse 5," written by Kurt Vonnegut. The book tells the tale of Billy Pilgrim through flashbacks, including his time as a World War II prisoner of war during the bombing of Dresden, time spent in an alien zoo and his travels through time. Vonnegut masterfully weaves together reality and fiction, using his own World War II experience to flesh out his characters.New members are always welcome.
