Slatington Borough Council

Slatington Borough Council discussed the following matters at last week’s meeting:

• The borough would like to thank state Rep. Zach Mako for donating the American flag that now hangs outside the borough’s municipal building.

• Councilman Jason Ruff spoke about the upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Event at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown that had been scheduled for March 28. The event, open to Lehigh County residents only, has since been postponed due to coronavirus concerns. Visit lehighcounty.org for updates.

• As a reminder, the borough will host an electronic recycling day April 4 and Oct. 10.

• On April 6, the borough will perform a “hydrate and flush” program to ensure the proper working of the fire hydrants in town. Beginning at 9 p.m. that evening, the borough will test its fire hydrants, and the process will last for several hours. The testing of hydrants will continue April 7-9 and will last several hours. The borough wishes to minimize any inconvenience to its residents and thanks them in advance for their cooperation.

• The borough’s water test results have come in and has been found safe for human consumption.

• In an attempt to avoid sewer plant violations, the borough will be cleaning up the grease trap located at the waste management facility, and proposed changes to the Grease Trap Ordinance 697 concerning the use of emulsifiers.
