Mahoning pole barn decimated by fire

A pole barn was decimated by a swift-moving fire Friday night in Mahoning Township.

Mahoning Valley fire Chief Mark Ebbert said firefighters were first dispatched to the tree and wires down call around 8 p.m.

Ebbert explained the situation that developed at 2582 Hemlock Drive.

“When we got on-scene, we found a large tree had fallen across the roadway, blocking the roadway, and power lines were down (alongside) the roadway,” Ebbert said. “While on-scene dealing with tree and wires down, about 40 to 45 minutes later is when a nearby pole barn was discovered on fire.”

Ebbert said the pole barn fire took about an hour to get under control.

He said there were no injuries, but the pole barn was a total loss.

As for the cause, Ebbert said they are claiming it as accidental and undetermined, but added the incident remains under investigation.

He said firefighters departed the scene around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Ebbert said also assisting at the scene were the Bowmanstown Fire Department, East Penn Fire Department, Franklin Township Fire Department, Lehighton Fire Department, Parryville Fire Department, Jim Thorpe Fire Department and Summit Hill Fire Department, most of which were for their tankers due to the remote area.

Mahoning Valley Ambulance and Lehighton Rehab also assisted, he said
