Birdwatching at Locust Lake

A “Big Sit” birding event will be held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Locust Lake State Park in Barnesville.

The Big Sit is an annual event, where birders all over the world record birds by species from a circular area that is 17 feet in diameter.

Birds are counted only with what participants can see and hear while they are in the circle.

Organized by the Schuylkill County Conservancy, the circle with a conservancy banner table, will be on the north side of the lake, at the west end of the grassy field area and very close to the camp store.

The group will also provide information and answer any questions regarding native bird species that nest, are resident, or migrate through the eastern United States.

Bring binoculars and a folding chair if you’d like. There will be snacks and drinks.

In case of rain, the event will be canceled.
