Fire dept. has six calls, two damaged hoses
The Lansford Fire Department was summoned to six calls within 18 hours on Monday.
In addition, at the scene of one call, a motorist ran over a 5-inch fire hose and caused more than $2,000 worth of damage to it.
Joseph Greco, Lansford fire chief, said the hose was damaged when it responded to a call at 2:20 p.m. at 214 West Kline Avenue. Because it was a working fire, 5-inch hose was connected to a hydrant.
A motorist ran over a section of the hose at Bertsch and Center streets, which damaged the couplings “and ripped the hose apart,” Greco said.
He said the hose twisted enough that the couplings bent.
One section costs approximately $1,200. Two sections are damaged.
Although the motorist hasn’t been identified, “police are looking into that one,” Greco said.
Anyone who might have witnessed the occurrence should contact the Lansford Police Department.
The first of the six calls happened at about 1:30 a.m. Monday when the Lansford and Summit Hill Fire Departments were dispatched to a vehicle on Route 209 near Panther Valley High School.
It turned out that the accident, a one-vehicle rollover, was actually in the vicinity of the Wash Shanty Curve on Route 209 in Nesquehoning.
Nesquehoning Fire Department was then dispatched, but the Lansford and Summit Hill personnel worked at helping the female in the vehicle get freed.
The second and third calls were dwelling fire, as described in a separate article.
Next came a call to assist Coaldale Fire Department at the scene of a tree that was down in that borough.
A call then came for fire department personnel to assist the Emergency Medical Services with lifting assistance.
Finally, another dwelling fire was reported. Fortunately, it was only a smoke detector that went off and there was no fire.
