Carbon schools approve CCTI budget

The Carbon Career & Technical Institute’s budget has been approved by all the sending schools. Jeffry P. Deutsch, Business Administrator, advised the Joint Operating Committee Thursday that all five sending school districts have now approved the 2024-2025 budget.

The new budget calls for receipts and expenditures in the amount of $9,305,429.

Deutsch reiterated that there is no increase in the amount each district pays, and no increase is expected in the foreseeable future.

All five districts are paid up in full for the year 2023-2024 school year.

The JOC also approved the following budgets:

• 2024-2025 Proposed Operating Budget for the CCTI Adult Education Program, calling for receipts and expenditures in the amount of $130,986.

• 2024-2025 Proposed Operating Budget for the Carbon Alternative High School Diploma Program, calling for receipts and expenditures in the amount of $330,000.

•The Tuition Rate for the Carbon Alternative High School Diploma Program at the rate of $11,000 per year for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Tuition payments based on participation are what fund the program. The daily rate will be $55.

The committee approved an agreement with Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21 for participation in the Technology in Education Legal Counsel Consortium and offered for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

Sweet, Stevens, Katz & Williams LLP is offering this service on a consortium basis through CLIU 21. This service is designed to provide legal support in the complicated and ever changing legal landscape that surrounds technology in an educational setting.

The Technology Counsel Consortium provides proactive strategies, training and model policies designed to prevent digital-age problems that can lead to liability. The overall pricing for this valuable service typically falls between $560 and $800 based on the number of participants.

Other business

• The board approved the CCTI SHINE Non-Traditional Summer Camp to be held at CCTI June 10-13 and June 17-20 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for 5th through 8th grade students.

The following people were approved as instructors at an hourly rate of $30 and assistants at an hourly rate of $25: Jeffrey Hazelton, Joshua Reif, Kevin Kuehner, Hal C. Resh, Salvatore LoPresti, Harold Resh, Tammy Marshall, Richard Stettler, Stephen Nesler, Alexandria Ventrella, and Ashleigh Rehrig.

• Twenty-four digital marketing & business fundamentals students will attend the 2024 Tourism Day Summit: The Magic of Hospitality May 22 at the Kalahari Resorts & Conventions, Pocono Manor. Carly Rinda, digital marketing & business fundamentals instructor and Casey Hill, instructional aide will chaperon this event.

• One SkillsUSA student will attend the SkillsUSA National Competition June 24 – June 29, in Atlanta, GA. Kevin Kuehner, Precision Machine Technology Instructor/SkillsUSA Advisor will chaperon this event.

• Three Health Medical students attend the HOSA International Leadership Conference (competition) June 25 – June 30 in Houston, Texas.

Donna McClain, Health Medical Instructor/HOSA Advisor will chaperon this event.
