Nesquehoning VFW seeks help for tree removal

Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008 is working on creating a memorial grove on the east end of town.

But help is needed to make this project a success.

To accomplish this, a tree removal committee has been formed to help raise the funds to offset the cost of clearing the site to create the grove, which is next to the Hose Company.

In the letter, sent to all residents of the borough, the committee said that the tree removal portion of the project will cost approximately $10,000.

“The VFW has already secured funds needed to build the veterans and first responders memorial that will include a flagpole, appropriate statues, a large pole building to be used for various community ceremonies and a handicap ramp for easy access,” the letter states.

The VFW Grove, as many locals know it as, had been a central point for community events for years; however the site has sat vacant and has grown in over the last few decades.

“This project will revitalize the area and make it usable for the veterans and the advancement of our mission to remember those who gave so much to ensure that our nation remains the land of the free and the home of the brave,” the committee wrote.

Contributions of any kind are being accepted at this time.

If you would like to contribute, checks should be made payable to VFW Tree Removal Project and either mailed to or dropped off at the Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank branch at 301 W. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning.

The Nesquehoning VFW Grove that has sat quietly for decades is getting a much needed face-lift, with the creation of a veterans and first responders memorial, however donations are needed to help cover the cost to clear the land of trees. AMY MILLER/TIMES NEWS
