Woman dead, others injured in two-car crash on 443

A woman is dead, and others seriously injured, following a two-car crash Thursday night in Mahoning Township.

Carbon County Coroner Robert Miller confirmed Friday morning that a woman died, but said he did not know her identity or any other information.

Miller said an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.

Efforts to reach Mahoning Township Police Department in time for today’s publication were unsuccessful.

The crash occurred at around 6 p.m. along Route 443 at the entrance to the Tractor Supply.

Members of the Mahoning Valley fire company worked to free the people from the wreckage.

The victims were treated at the scene by members of the Mahoning Valley ambulance and Lehighton paramedics.

At least one victim was flown to a trauma center while another was so serious that victim could not be flown.

Route 443 was closed to traffic.

Mahoning Township Police are investigating the incident.
