Coroner releases name of man who drowned in Lehigh

The Carbon County Coroner has released the name of the man who drowned in the Lehigh River Saturday afternoon.

Chad Mumbauer, 44, of Bethlehem was pronounced dead at 3:20 by Deputy Coroner Jason Nicholas along the D &L trail and Lehigh River, Parryville Borough.

Mumbauer was involved in a tubing accident on the Lehigh River. Coroner Mark K. Smith said the cause and manner of death are pending autopsy scheduled for May 27 and will be released thereafter.

At this time, the incident is being investigated as an accident.

Along with the Carbon County Coroner’s office the incident is being investigated by Lehighton Police Department

Around 11:15 a.m. Saturday a call came in of a man on the river near the trestle in distress.

The Lehighton Fire Department dive team launched a boat just upstream and started a search for the victim.

A short time later a call came in from several people about a mile downstream of a person in the river in the area of the Lehighton sewer plant
