Tamaqua students learn about fire safety

When a pot caught fire on a stove, Tamaqua Elementary students watched as firefighters extinguished the flames.

The demonstration was part of a program held at the school Wednesday for Fire Prevention Week.

Students learned how to use fire extinguishers, how to safely evacuate their homes if there’s a fire, and how to “stop, drop and roll.”

All four of Tamaqua’s fire companies - the American Hose, Citizens, East End and South Ward - brought apparatus for the children to inspect. Smokey Bear also made an appearance.
