Franklin fire company holding block party July 28-29

The 42nd annual Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 Block Party will run July 28-29 at the fire department on Fairyland Road.

Chris Lilly, president of the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, said the event is among the fire company’s top fundraisers.

“We appreciate that everyone comes out and supports us every year,” Lilly said. “Sometimes we are overwhelmed with the support from the community; we do appreciate it.”

Lilly said St. Luke’s University Health Network is the corporate community sponsor of the event, and is sponsoring the fireworks.

She said the chance auction and various other activities are being sponsored and funded by numerous local businesses.

Lilly said the event starts at 4 p.m. both days, with a menu that includes homemade filling, burgers, and hot dogs. She said other activities both days include a huge chance auction; bake sale; children’s activities (Buster the Clown, and games); bingo; big six wheel; dime toss; lottery tree; 50/50 raffles; rip-opens; a new game called high striker; and a beer garden.

Lilly said July 28 will have seafood dinners from 4-7 p.m. along with music by The Steelcreek Band from 6-10 p.m.

Dinners include a choice of fried haddock or poorman’s lobster, shrimp or chicken fingers served with choice of French fries or filling. The cost is $13 per meal, and are available until they run out.

The regular menu will follow, and includes hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken barbecue, ham barbecue, hamburger barbecue, French fries, and filling.

On July 29, Mystery City will perform from 6-10 p.m. There will also be a garden tractor pull from 7-10 p.m. The fireworks spectacular will follow at around 10:30 p.m., though guests are asked to arrive early.

Lilly said the funds will go to support projects of the fire company, whether its paying bills, remodeling, or going into the fire truck fund.
